HARBOR RAT

Story and photos by Rodent
HARBOR RAT

Bob Faucher works as a mechanic, not a technician, at an independent Daytona Beach motorcycle shop called Custom Works. He has more than one ride, so we asked him to let us shoot the most interesting. Giving him that choice, he showed up with this 1975 Ironhead Sportster.

The frame is a stock Harley-Davidson with a welded-on hard tail extension. The motor, tranny, wheels and front end are as delivered from the Harley factory. The rest of the pieces were picked up at swap meets or as a last resort, J&P Cycles.

It was fabricated and painted by Bob and John Fager with much assistance from Budweiser over a long year. The image of the rat on the gas tank is a "Harbor Rat" that is a moniker given to kids who grew up in Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. The bike is dedicated to a Harbor Rat that was killed in action on February 5, 1969 in Vietnam and all the other New Jersey Harbor Rats that served in Vietnam.
